The 23rd Annual Festival of Trees returns to Gateway Center on Wednesday, December 7, 2016.
The Festival of Trees is the area’s most anticipated holiday gala event. For the last 23 years, Gateway Center’s Board of Directors has provided local not-for-profit organizations an opportunity to raise funds for ongoing and new community based projects. Since the event’s inception, nearly half a million dollars in proceeds have been invested in local projects that have enhanced the quality of life for area residents and promoted civic pride.
The beneficiaries of the 2016 Festival of Trees are the Collinsville Sunrise Kiwanis Club and the Maryville Kiwanis Club. Kiwanis is a worldwide organization focused on changing the world by serving children, one child and one community at a time. Funds received from the 2016 Festival of Trees will be used to help make Willoughby Farm more handicapped accessible and to purchase playground equipment for Drost Park in Maryville.
“We are very excited about this year’s event,” said Donna Betta of the Collinsville Sunrise Club. “Members of both the Collinsville and Maryville Kiwanis Clubs have worked very hard to make this an evening attendees will thoroughly enjoy,” added Betta. Approximately 40 decorated live trees, 12 decorated artificial trees, 30 wreaths and a number of tablescapes will be available for attendees to bid on during the course of the evening. Other holiday décor will also be available for sale at the event.
“There is no better way to kick off the holiday season,” said Linda Godell of the Maryville Club. “Please join us in celebrating the children of the world.”
The event begins at 6:00 p.m. and includes complimentary beverages & hors d’oeuvres along with music entertainment and a dessert bar. Tickets are $40 and can be obtained by contacting Jan Patrick Hayden at 618-806-6982. Those interested in decorating a live tree or sponsoring a tree, wreath or tablescape may also contact Jan at the same number.

After receiving the final count for ticket sales, item sales and all donations, the Miner's Institute Foundation is pleased to announce the 2015 Festival of Trees raised more than $31,000 toward restoration of the Miner's Theatre!
This total is higher than our team expected based on previous years. "I was stunned when I saw the number" said Leah Joyce, president of the Miner's Institute Foundation. "I am so moved by our community's generosity to participate, contribute and simply celebrate together as we work to reopen this historic theatre."
Additionally the event served as a way to honor Betty Daley, the founder, previous president and general manager of the Miner's Institute Foundation who passed away in June, 2014. "The two trees, photos, film and all the memorabilia was such a beautiful tribute to this very special mover and doer" said Mick Gnavi, Board member and close friend of Betty Daley. "MIF was such an integral part of Betty's life; I am sure she looked down on the event approvingly with her infectious smile. Special thanks to Kelly Jefferson and Rose Judge for making this event come to life."
WHAT IS FESTIVAL OF TREES?
Since 1993, Gateway Center's Board of Directors has given local not-for-profit organizations the opportunity to raise funds for ongoing and new community based projects through the Festival Of Trees events.
Festival Of Trees guests will enjoy unlimited food and drinks as they stroll the 40,000 square feet of space filled with Christmas and holiday decor, one-of-a-kind trees, gorgeous wreaths and table centerpieces, and tablescapes suitable for any special gathering. A secret panel of judges will choose their favorite trees. Be sure to bring cash, credit card or checkbook to bid on your favorite tree, wreath or tablescape, try your luck at the 50/50 raffle, or purchase a beautiful hand-crafted glass ornament to take home for your own tree. A special tree in honor of this years program recipient is being created and will be raffled off.
