Southern Illinois Attractions Are Plentiful |

The Mississippi is a mighty river, but that hasn't kept St. Louis from overrunning its banks and moving into Illinois bringing with it many great things to do. This makes many southern Illinois attractions essentially Saint Louis attractions, blended together in one metropolitan area that locals refer to as the "Metro East". With this overflow there is always something to do, and Gateway Center close by. The Gateway Geyser is located less than ten minutes away over the bridge in East St. Louis. The fountain in this manmade wonder soars almost 630 feet in the air, rivaling its Missouri neighbor, the Gateway Arch. Just a couple of miles further you will find Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois. This important track on the NASCAR circuit is a great place for a family of race fans to unwind. You can watch the most acclaimed racecar drivers in the nation, and sometimes the world, race weekly. Plan your trip right, and you can watch the heated competition during the NASCAR Busch and Craftsman Truck Series, or the NHRA Sears Craftsman Nationals. These are just a small sampling of all the great things to do while you are here.
